Zumba is an exercise fitness program created by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez during the 1990s. Zumba is a trademark owned by Zumba Fitness, LLC. The Brazilian pop singer Claudia Leitte has become the international ambassador to Zumba Fitness. Zumba combines fast-paced Latin music with a dance-inspired workout routine. As of 2012, more than 14 million people take a Zumba class in more than 150 countries in any given week, according to the Zumba website. Zumba allows people of all fitness levels and all ages to get a calorie-burning cardio workout that is also fun to do. Certified instructors teach Zumba in gyms, fitness facilities and rec centers around the world and receive certification through the Zumba franchise.
A career as a Zumba Instructor brings about many opportunities and experiences; far more than people may realize. Zumba Jammers are an international team of Zumba Instructors who create the choreography which other instructors in every country use in their classes.
In general, all Zumba instructors must be at least 18 years old.
Certification in Zumba
Today, Zumba has broken all rules of the fitness world and has successfully instilled a new-found respect for the trainers. As trainers, Zumba instructors earn on a par or at times even more than anyone working in the corporate world. But to be successful as a fitness professional, one needs to be up-to-date with their skills and invest time and effort in learning.
